Dr. Gary Erkfritz is a Chiropractor, Nutritionist and Natural Allergist who practices in Thousand Oaks, California, USA.
Dr. Gary is a native of Detroit and Livonia, Michigan. After high school graduation at age 16, Gary attended Michigan State University and National College of Chiropractic, Lombard, Illinois from which he received his Doctor of Chiropractic degree in 1967.
Following graduation, Dr. Gary came to California and was licensed in October, 1967. He practiced in California for 1-1/2 years and returned to the Detroit area to care for his aged parents. Dr. Gary assumed the practice of Dr. Clayton Hillis of Redford, Michigan in January 1969 and practiced in that office until November of 1985.
In January of 1986 he opened the Newbury Park Chiropractic Office in Newbury Park, CA. He continued to practice until 1997 when he “retired”. That lasted about two years.
In 1999, Dr. Gary decided to resume part-time practice following an epiphany while in Perth, Australia.
Gary has always felt his life was guided, and what happened following that epiphany sent his professional life into an entirely different direction. Dr. Gary felt that he really wanted to work with children much more than he had previously.
Dr. Gary returned to California, and shortly after arriving back he had a serendipitous meeting with an old friend who recommended he check out NAET – Nambudripad’s Allergy Elimination Technique — which he did, and has been practicing NAET since 1999. Dr. Gary has been certified as an instructor and taught in Europe, and has also co-hosted the annual NAET Symposium for the past eleven years.
NAET has been taught to over 15,000 doctors and therapists from all over the world since its inception in 1986. For more information go to www.naet.com. Dr. Nambudripad has written over a dozen books on Allergy Elimination – my favorite being “Say Goodbye to Allergies” . She now has devoted her entire time to research and teaching and has turned the day-to-day operation of her clinic in Buena Park, CA, over to her son and daughter-in-law, both medical doctors who practice NAET.
Early on Dr. Gary was introduced to children with special needs, including Autism, AD/HD and the spectrum in-between. These children almost always have allergy issues and Dr. Gary was instrumental in helping many children with various diagnoses using the NAET method.
Always looking for new ways to help children, especially those with special needs, Dr. Gary began taking classes in functional neurology hosted by the Carrick Institute. He was particularly interested in the presentations of Dr. Robert Melillo who is widely renown. He is also author of three books: Disconnected Kids, Reconnected Kids and Autism.
Because he was so impressed by Dr. Melillo and his work, he was honored to be the owner of the very first Brain Balance Center west of the East Coast (New York and Atlanta). He introduced the West Coast to Brain Balance and developed an active Center for three years. However, working 90 hour workweeks was wearing him down, so he decided to turn Brain Balance over to another group now located in Encino. This allowed him to return to his original plan of working 2.5 day work weeks. There are currently over 60 Brain Balance Centers throughout the US, five in California.
At age 71,. Dr. Gary is still working and helping his practice members in a variety of ways. He continues to practice on Tuesday, Thursdays and Saturdays located in the office of Advanced Chiropractic in Thousand Oaks. He also is a perpetual learner and on often takes seminars on his favorite subjects – neurology and allergy. He continues to be an instructor with the NAET organization, helping train future practitioners.
Dr. Gary has been married to his wife Susan, who is a State Farm Insurance agent in Newbury Park, for 45 years, has two grown children who live in Colorado and Oregon, and two grandchildren.
